Welcome! よろしく!

Welcome to Dublin City University Karate Club – the longest running martial arts club in DCU, 2017 Irish Intervarsity karate champions, 2017 DCU Team of the Year and hosts of the 2019 Irish Intervarsity championships.

Our primary aim is to provide a safe environment in which people can learn traditional Shotokan karate in a structured and progressive fashion.

We are affiliated to the Japan Karate Association – Shotokan Ireland (JKA-SI) and provide access to internationally recognised JKA grades. All of our own black belt instructors have many years experience and have graded with the JKA, some up to 5th Dan.

We try to concentrate on both “traditional” and “sport” karate. This encourages members to enter competitions, and the club are the 2017 Irish Intervarsity champions and 2017 DCU Team of the Year. The club also organises social events throughout the year including training weekends away and nights out.

To join, just turn up any of our training sessions (wearing loose fitting clothes such as a t-shirt and track suit bottoms) and speak with a member of the committee. In September 2022 our training time is on Saturdays in the Racquetball Court from 11am – 12.30pm. Hope to see you there!
